YORUBA CHILD, THINK!
Your Heritage Lives in Our Language and Proverbs!
"Remember whose child you are."
Your language, as a truly well-raised Yoruba child, is rich with verbal treasures such as proverbs and other wise expressions that can beautify speech and be used to impart wisdom, truth, humility, deep reflection, and good character (ìwà omolúàbí) within the family, among friends, and in society at large.
No matter the circumstances, speak your language at all times in your home and everywhere you find yourself. By doing this, you gain access to the wisdom systems our forefathers used from generation to generation to guide their actions and daily lives.
Deep knowledge of the Yoruba language and its proverbs will make it easier for you to always know the right and appropriate steps to take. It is amazing that no matter how complex an issue is, there is always a Yoruba proverb that can be used to unravel it.
"Proverbs are the horses of words; words are the horses of proverbs. When words are lost, we use proverbs to search for them."
The main reason for establishing the YORUBA RONU initiative is to awaken every well-raised Yoruba child, so that together we can join hands to promote the Yoruba language and culture in Nigeria and across the world. Our language and culture must not go extinct, nor should our cultural values be permanently buried as a result of exchanging our language and culture for foreign ones!
Let us begin to speak our language boldly, document the depth of the Yoruba language with proper tone marks, and use it to create programs and meaningful discussions on digital platforms—until our language and culture become globally recognized and celebrated.
So that you may truly be counted as a genuine Yoruba child, and become familiar with the proverbs that mold wisdom within you—join us!
The Yoruba Ronu program is divided into the following segments:
- PROVERB:
Present a proverb and explain its meaning. - USING PROVERBS TO ANALYZE NEWS:
Use proverbs to examine current news and events happening in our country and around the world, while offering guidance to Yoruba people. - USING PROVERBS FOR SHORT DRAMA:
Use proverbs in short dramatic sketches to educate and enlighten Yoruba children.
